Hi,
I installed SUSE 7.1 on a fast PC and got the sm56 (internal) work fine on
it. At last I also was able to be running SUSE 7.1 on 486 (DX2) with 8 MB of
RAM (used the i386 bootdisk and the 2.4 Kernel - optimized for 386). I
didn't compile the kenel yet. The sm56.xxx.rpm packed was successfully
installed, I ran the setup (no errors, everything perfect), but my machine
hooks up every time I start wvdial:

---> WvDial: Inernetdialer version 1.41
---> Initializing modem.

normaly it hooks here, sometimes it prints also

---> Sending: ATZ

but then it is over and I have to Reset my system.

If I use the <<wvdial --chat>> he prints

---> WvDial: Inernetdialer version 1.41
---> Initializing modem.
---> Sending: ATZ
---> Sending: ATQ
---> Resending: ATZ
---> Modem is not responding

and than I've got the prompt again.

The curious thing is that if I put this drive (and my modem) into my fast
PC, EVERYTHING WILL WORK FINE. Do you think it is a lack of RAM for wvdial
or for the driver, or any other hardware (Chipset, etc.) stuff. Should I try
for a newer version of wvdial (if there is any; haven't looked it up yet)?
Is there a way of getting the error messages while this or after this
happens? My system hooks, I can't do anything and after rebooting there is
nothing in /var/log/messages wich has to do with the modem. With <<tail -f
/var/log/messages>> while executing there's also nothing to see. Is there
another (if possible easy) programm like wvdial?

Anybody any solution?

Tom
