Good point. The problem with Debian has been that it takes quite a
while between two releases. The average time between released in the
case of Debian has been inordinately high. Approx 1.5 - 2 years.
Considering how the amount of available software for Linux has been
booming, it is clear that the last stable version of Debian would not
have the latest and greatest software frequently.
My practice has been to install the last stable version of Debian and
then individually install each piece of new software from the unstable
branch on top of it on a case by case basis.
This is not a tirade against Debian. RH suffers from its own problems.
In the case of RH, there are simply too many versions of contributed
rpms from various sources with varying quality and levels of
trustability.
