LBA is Logical Block Addressing. IIRC, with LBA, whatever be the disk
geometry, it is accessible as a disk with 255 heads (127 for my
ex-laptop), and 63 sectors. Only the number of cylinders vary
according to the disk capacity. For example, on a disk I have access
to, the physical structure is (from /proc/ide/hda/geometry)

physical 16383/16/63
logical 2490/255/63

These two sets of numbers are different because of LBA.

Maybe someone else will take over from here? What are the advantages
of LBA? Why do Win9x insist on LBA? What about linux? Are the numbers
255 and 63 counted from 0 (making the actual numbers 256 and 64)?
