dear friends,

I would like to know a good mail client on linux. i have used the
following:
1) netscape 4.61- it shuts down (vanishes!) upon selecting an address in
the address book and pressing enter. this typically happens after a
coupla days. (i keep my machine on for weeks). so i hafta keep typing
long addresses.

2) kde's mail client - address book works, but if you type in a wrong
address, you cant edit the file in the outbox. ya need to retype/copy
the mail and retype all addresses. cant remember the other problems.

3) i use pine for sending mails for which i dont want a record
maintained. this is great if the file is lying in some directory deep in
the system.

4) I tried Staroffice's mail looong ago, but cant recall. The browser
had issues. However, would hate to load all of staroff just to see
mails.

I am not particular about any fancy gui- just need a solid stable system
that works. it should have an address book.

One general problem is that these clients do not recognize a shell
variable. i have directories mapped to variables and would like to use
these in the file chooser.

looking forward to replies,
rk.
