But when you export to text file from lyx, it retains table of index and various headers with proper numbering. It also formats text for 80 column output. Puts footnoets/bibliography at the end in a formatted fashion etc.etc... Merely removing latex commands just will leave a not so beautiful text skeleton with all formatting in tex file(or lack of it) left as it is.. Or may be I mistook power/flexibility of untex..
