There used to be a program called TextCode on freshmeat. This
converts any type of data to text, inclusive of  RTF, ps  and 
and even text within binary files !... you just name it. Only 
that it makes a hash of the formatting.

If formatting is to be maintained, and your LaTeX docs do not
have  many  complicated tables/ graphics, try "untex". Forgot
the URL ... try google.
