yes

in /var/spool/mail/amit - provided a user named amit exists on that
machine. If you use smtphost intranet_server however, the mails WILL
NOT be stored on the gateway. I repeat - you WILL NOT find the mails on
the gateway.

log in as amit. If you've used smtphost intranet_server, then the mails
will lie in /var/spool/mail/amit on the intranet_server. This is the
default path, and may have been changed, but that is unlikely.

You do not have to log in to the intranet server. Your pop3 client will
connect using POP3 protocol. You need to tell your pop3 client to use
user amit and not user root.

If you use smtphost intranet_server, then there will be no copy on the
gateway, if you do not use smtphost intranet_server, then the mail will
only be on the gateway and nowhere else.
