If you're trying to connect to Yahoo Messenger with Gaim, through a 
Squid proxy, you need to do the following:

- add the following line to the acl section of your squid.conf file and 
restart squid.
acl Safe_ports port 5050

- under preferences in gaim set the proxy type as "http" and fill in the 
right IP address and port that your squid proxy is running on.

Gaim should work now with your squid proxy. If you still have problems, 
enable the "Show debug window" under general preferences and post the 
exact error that you get here.

Ps: I never could get the Yahoo Messenger linux client working through 
squid either......
