I am using VSNL (nde). I have faced no such problems. 

The  deletion  perhaps,  depends upon  how  the  mait  retrival
software has  been configured. Under fetchmail,  depending upon
your local configuration  deletion may be after  downloading of
each individual mail.

Perhaps somebody  more competent on the  VSNL set up  may throw
some light on this issue.
