run the following commands as root.. chown root.root /home/guest/Desktop/* chmod 644 /home/guest/Desktop/* This would ensure that all the icons/shortcuts on the desktop will not be editable by user guest.. but they will be readable. An easier option would probably be to copy over the shortcuts from some other place everytime a user logs in.
