I did what you told with a small diference.
ie # chown -R root:root .gnome-desktop then I did
# chmod -R 755 .gnome-desktop
This works for me. But there is a small problem. The users can change
the icons on the panel and the start menu in gnome (which I am using). Is
there any way of restricting that also? And you wrote ....

How do you do that? can you give a simple example. Of course I know how
to copy the links (Using cp command) but how do I know which links to
copy (for example where are the links in the start menu situated?) and do
I write this command in the .profile file of the user?
please explain.
