I suppose MTNL gave you a modem (actually, a router) which connects to
your PC through ethernet. (There are routers which connect through the
USB port). 

Assming you got the ethernet hardware, I suppose your computer should
have a network card? Probably on the mother board itself? IF not, you
will need to cough up Rupees 350/- or so and buy yourselves one.

Next, you should install pppoeconf using apt-get yum or whatever is
available on your sytem, (which will install other packages required.

Next, make sure that the the router is connected to the telephone
network AND your PC's network card, and also that is switched on.

Next, open a terminal window (like GNOME terminal) and say

``sudo pppoeconf''

This will commence the very short process (4 or 5 steps) of
configuring your pc for TriBand. You should need your user name and
password given to you by MTNL.
