I've read through the archive, and it's helped me get to here.
I'm not sure what's wrong now. When I run irattach /dev/ttyS2
here's the output of /var/log/messages
Nov 24 02:54:50 localhost irattach: Serial connection established.

Nov 24 02:54:51 localhost irattach: executing: 'echo vaio >
/proc/sys/net/irda/devname'
Nov 24 02:54:51 localhost irattach: Unable to get name of device!
Nov 24 02:54:51 localhost irattach: Using device:
Nov 24 02:54:51 localhost modprobe: can't locate module
irdadump doesn't show anything.
I know the IrDA port is working.
If I do a cat < /dev/ttyS2 and push a button on my remote control it spits out
characters on the screen.
Sorry if I'm doing something really silly,
