Thats the 38Khz stuff for controlling TV's, videos etc. It can be incredibly
useful (think PC turning the TV on so you dont forget programs)

I dont know if SIR and FIR are any of the other protocols listed.

        CIR = TV remote control etc
        SIR = infra red at up to 115,200 baud hooked on serial port type iface
        FIR = Fast infrared (4Mbit!)

        IRDA = a set of specs for SIR/FIR, the protocol and the timing
