I had almost the same Problem with my PC-87108.
I homebuilt this board, so my BIOS knows nothing about ist, but in Win98
ist works fine, since its driver configures this chip.
This is the thing the BIOS should do, if it knows about the chip.
I did a little dirty hack and wrote a Program to enable and configure the
pc-87108. Since the 87338 should be almost similar, ist may be easy to
port this to the 87338. I found pdf-datasheet of both chips at NSC's
Webserver.
I'll post this proggy here next time, after i fetched the source fro home.
Maybe we should write a generic 'ircc-cnfg' proggy that can configure
different chips if the Bios does not want to do this Job? I'll try.
This little proggy has one disadvantage: You need to build the
Kernel-driver for ist as a module...
BTW: does anyone know about the nsc-ircc driver still being broken?
I can find other IrDA devices, but every attempt to transfer real
Data fails. I'll send another Post about this soon.
Have fun,
Florian
