In my case (Toshiba 420CDT, SIR, 2.2.18, Visor), I've found that 9600 baud
works less well than 57600.  I don't know why.

Also, if anybody is saving this stuff for the FAQ (which does need to be
updated BADLY), note that for the Visor (PalmOS 3.1) and some other older
models, HotSync won't use IR unless you download and install some IR
extensions:

Get the irenhanc package from Palm -- this makes the IR port programmable
through the serial manager, so any app that uses serial will automatically
use IR instead (selectable in Prefs).

Then install BeamSync, which enables IR HotSyncing:
