Hi Bob,
Recently I bought an IR device (irTrans) which uses the usbserial
interface. To my dismay I've seen that its operation interferes
with that of the RK USB driver.

After tracing the trouble, it is clear that it is *not* the
irTrans (software) fault: in fact, the interference does happen
with the usbserial device itself. So here is the problem:

First plug a usbserial device into an USB port. Then plug also
the RK-USB and mount it e.g. at /mnt/karma2. So far so good, the
RK interface works perfectly, for hours in a raw. Then just open
somehow a usbserial device (e.g. cat /dev/ttyUSB0). After a
(variable) short period /mnt/karma2 is no longer accesible.

Tracing the problem further reveals that the RK usb_storage
device is unbound and rebound every few seconds. So at any point
in time you can find a right device and mount it correctly, but
in a few more seconds, the device gets unbound/rebound and your
moint point gets broken... Syslog clearly shows the process:
'USB disconnect, address N', followed by 'new high speed USB
device ... address N+1', and so on every few seconds.

I've tried with a couple of other usb_storage devices, and this
problem does not happen, so it looks like the (main) issue is in
the RK code of usb_storage.

Any idea?

Best,
EV.
