Hi
In continuation to my problem, I downloaded ezppp and got it going, but I
still can't logon.

I renamed my options file and created an empty one.
I have a chap-secrets file with "myname * password" in it.
I did all the steps recommended for beginners.
I ran ezppp, created a new connection.
I filled in the DNS servers, because in win95 I only have DNS servers in my
settings.
I left DNS search domain empty as I don't have any of those in my win95
settings.

I checked "user terminal instead of script.
I dial, when I see the connect, a new window opens so I click "start ppp" or
something like that.
At the login prompt I get disconnected. My win95 log tells me that I am
using CHAP, so that is not a problem.

Any clues on how to fix that? I should also note that my provider uses my
entire email address as the login name.

Thanks

Download the latest stable kernel ( 2.0.36 ) from kernel.org. Compile
and install.

Actually, you can't. Neither NT or Win98 cope properly with
two things happening at the same time in your operating system, and
their standards change without warning or documentation.

This is how I add and compile a NEW Kernel. Am I doing this right?

Kill and make the new symbolic links:

 cd /usr/src
 rm /usr/src/linux
ln -s /usr/src/ the new source directory

Kill and make the new include links:

 cd usr/include
 rm -rf asm linux scsi
 ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 asm
 ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux linux
 ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/scsi scsi

Now set up to do the compile:

make mrproper clean up the config files
make xconfig I use the X, kernel configurator
 make dep
 make clean
make zImage if the kernel is too big use make bzImage
 make modules
 make modules_install

Now use linuxconf to setup the new kernel and reconfigure lilo.

You see, the first time I installed it, I did it as root (in an xterm)
in another users CDE session. It totally messed up big time, and
uninstalling it was just as difficult and had to try to install it 5
times before it worked (sort of). I will try it again when I upgrade
the system to Solaris 7. It must be me :).

Well, I'm afraid that says more about your computer knowledge than Linux.
Try using the full featured PPP "wizard" in the control-panel and you
should be right on. Of course, if you're any good, youll do it in hand by
editing rc files and linking /dev/ttySx to your modem device.

And of course the first time you sat in front of a M$ loaded machine you
just digged in and type "copy con" to get a new file, right ? The command
is so intuitive that a retarded movie star on crack could figure it out,
right ?

Did M$ make since the first 50 times you used it ? Is "dir" a more obvious
command than "ls" ? Give it a little time and you'll find yourself doing
actual compuring instead of pointing and clicking. And of course the main
benefit is that you'll finally get rid of the pathetic Blue Screen, the
obnoxious "please install IE 4 to proceed", the "please reboot your system
to get this new mouse driver working"....the list goes on and on.

Hmm...

LOL. Now here's a statement worth arguing about, but since you're so hot in
programming, try recompiling the NT kernel to leave out support for PCMCIA
cards. It can be a little tricky, but since you're such a programmer it
shouldn't be a problem.
