It's fairly easy to modify the key mappings in emacs. You can set up
his copy to emulate all the WordStar keys. See the emacs HOWTO for
details.
I think MicroPro went belly up, but don't know for sure.

Everything. RH6 is based around glibc 2.1
It has compatibility libs for glibc 2.0 and libc-5 so your old apps will
(should!) continue to run.

You might try the Linux fdisk to change the partition type back
to a dos partition. I think the fdisk command of "l" will list the
types and the "t" command will let you set the partitions back to
dos type of partition.

One of the libraries that this library is linked against is linked against
libc5. It's best to split libc5 and libc6 libraries into different
directories to stop errors like this creeping in

SO4 was libc5 based, but SO5 requires glibc and even ships with a copy of glibc

When I did the fdisk thing it was because I was in a hurry, had a boot
disk, and did know off hand how to reconfigure Lilo to boot into Win98.
I did this so that my wife could turn on the computer and not find
herself at a linux terminal. I later reinstalled LiLo and reconfigured
it (after consulting some documentation) and have lived happily ever
after. Maybe the guy how started this thread is in the same boat.
Just a word of advice to the RedHat developers. Have the default setup
for a work station prompt you for which OS you want as your default. It
is an option in the customized setup, but not in the default. It'd make
life easier for the newbies who are xjust trying it out for the first
time.

Yes, it's a virtual resolution. This can be annoying. Some programs
are really poorly-behaved in this regard (ghostview). Others (like
Netscape, one of its few graces) will remember the window size &
position from the last time you started it. I like having large
virtual resolution because it enables me to keep multiple windows open
without burying any of them.
You can reset virtual resolution to be equal to the actual resolution
easily enough. You can "train" windows to behavior by putting entries
into your .Xdefaults file, as well, using the `geometry' keyword.
Example:
xterm*geometry 80x25+0+0
This will cause xterm to start in the up lefthand corner (+0+0) in an
80x25 window.
Most window managers have some kind of feature that will allow you to
see the coordinates for a window -- like clicking on it with the right
mouse button. In xfm, clicking the right mouse button on the empty
desktop pops up a menu with a list of open windows & the geometry of
each one.

Just installed Redhat 5.2 I'm sorry to say, but FVWM is UGLY. Now the install
set up where I can "switch to" AfterStep or WindowMaker. Only problem is,
when I do so, there are things that don't work. For example, in afterStep the
animations don't seem to work, nor do the screensavers. In WindowMaker, none
of my applications are available.
Can someone provide some help? This is my first Linux installation and woul
LOVE to not have to use Winblows anymore. Are there other Windows Managers
out there that would be better?
Thanks

I'm using Linux with Bell Atlantic's "InfoSpeed DSL". The DSL modem
they installed just ends up acting like a 10baseT socket in the wall.
You must have ethernet, and you treat it exactly as if it were a hub
(if hubs had only one port). There's no issue of compatability with
the modem.
With this model, as long as you speak 10baseT ethernet you're
compatable, whether you're a Linux box, an Amiga, or even some small
random PDA with an ethernet card. Hell, you could even just hook up
a standalone printer if it has an ethernet port.
Be warned, some DSL services have other compatability issues besides
hardware compatability with the modem in use. For example, they could
in theory require dynamic IP address assignment via a modified DHCP
using a custom client. This can complicate things.

I guess I wasn't clear. It gives this message, and THEN doesn't work anymore.
:-) i.e. when I run my script, I get this error, then right after that I get
"PPP failed" which is the message my script prints when it fails. I never get
this error under 2.0.X kernels. So something is in fact broken under 2.2.6

I did this, and it worked! Thanks. I followed the instructions in the glibc
HOWTO, and it just said to COPY /lib/libc.so.5* to a nother directory, which
was also in my /etc/ld.so.conf file.

I downloaded this and tried it out. Unfortunately the program was unable
to convert some fonts and mathematical symbols used within the document.
The systems I have access to are Red Hat 5.1 systems. I know that those
systems (unfortunately) do not come with a version of ghostscript
containing the ps2pdf uttility.
On the other hand, Red Hat 5.2 machines do contain the ps2pdf utility and I
will be trying ps2pdf on those machines.
If things go wrong I will have to upload my ps files to some place that uses
acrobat distiller and mails me back the pdf file.
For those with a similar problem to my own that need to upgrade
ghostscript, the old ghostscript 3.33 does not come with ps2pdf
and anything more recent than ghostscript 4.03 should contain
the ps2pdf utility as well. Interim versions may or may no have
the utility.
For those interested in the Adobe Distiller (commercial), it can be
downloaded from
http://www.adobe.com/supportservice/custsupport/LIBRARY/acdunix.htm
(HP UX, AIX, and Sparc. Mac. and Win).
http://www.adobe.com/supportservice/custsupport/download.html
Unfortunately there is no Linux version yet.
Thanks to all those that helped,
Neil Zanella
