Ksh is available on Linux. I think it is called pksh or something like
that.
As far as I know the only real difference is that you have to change echo
to echo -n.

You are trying to cat a file into a variable. This will change the contents
of the file in the variable.
replace echo with cat and remove cfile=`cat $cfile`
It could also be that $cfile doesnt exist or that you have to add a path to
it.

you can let the plug n pray support in your kernel, but yes, use isapnp.
as for how to get isapnp to work, i did it by trial and error when hacking
apart a pnpdump output.
the best advice i can give is (1) trial and error works and 2) rtfm.

I am using LaTeX myself for a lot of stuff, doing everything in Emacs
w/o even using the menues or lisp functions, but I could never force
somebody else in my group using it, esp. not some kind of manager used
to create slides with at least 256 colors, 25 fonts and having
problems creating two-column text in a "normal" word processor, not
even talking about indices, TOC's, styles, ...

Hi.
Does anyone out there know of any command-line graphical web browsers that
use graph libraries (libSVGA or others) instead of depending on X? This is
just for evaluation to determine if a thin Linux client could be used for
our kiosks instead of Windows, and it does not matter if it is freeware or
commercial.
Thanks for responding,

be sure and download the ssh module for TeraTerm because plain telnet does
nasty things like sending passwords plain text.

I'm learning... Slowly, maybe, but I am learning. I think I just may
re-do everything again. Since I still have a somewhat fresh install,
I won't lose much of anything by wiping it all out and starting over
again. I never had a concept of what-all was going on in /var and
/tmp until I started having these problems and came here for help. I
even found out another area where I'm getting potential fill-ups.
SuSE likes to create rpm backup databases to /var/adm/backup/rpmdb.

Windows will not boot linux directly bacause the NT boot loader
doesn't understand the ext2 partition format. There was a third party
utility that you could use that would patch the NT boot.ini and the
loader files to get it to work correctly. I used to use it all the
time. I think the name of it is BOOTPART. A search on google turned
up this site: http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm
Good luck

Bugger-all that can be easily purchased today. Bite the bullet and go
SCSI.
If you're sufficiently masochistic to ignore the above sound advice,
see what you can find that's purchaseable from your suppliers from the
listing at http://www2.prestel.co.uk/hex/scanners.html.

You want runlevel 3 instead of runlevel 5.
This is controlled by a line in /etc/inittab. If you want
to change it permanently (or an extended period of time),
change the `5' to a `3' in the appropriate line. But
if you don't have X running, you will probably have to
boot single user to do that by entering
linux single
at the LILO prompt.
If you just want to do boot in run level 3 once, use
linux 3
at the LILO prompt.

I had problems printing to an IP address, too. To locate the problem,
the following instructions might be helpful:
1.Can you connect to the printer? Try: ping 1.2.3.4
2.If this works, try: telnet 1.2.3.4 515
which should give you something like the following:
Trying 1.2.3.4
Connected to xx.yy
Escape character is ...
This connection must be termined (hint: ESC, ] , q).
3.If this works, then you have a problem with the printer spooler. Stop
the spooler to verify that jobs are queued for printing.
Type:
lpc stop remote
lpr -Premote /etc/printcap
lpc status remote
lpq -Premote
You first stopped the printer queue and then attempted to print the
/etc/printcap-file. This job should show up.
4.Restart the printer queue:
lpc start remote
If everythings works, your file should now be printed...
