I don't use NIS but you can go into the users home directory and delete
the .gnome files, logout, and log back in the .gnome files will be
replaced.

This will clear any desktop settings that the user has setup.

If that doesn't work you can save any personal files and delete the user
with "userdel user" then delete the users temporary files in the /tmp
directory and then create a new user with the same name if you want to
keep the same user name.

You don't need to reboot the system.

This is directly from sun's installation directions.

It will be necessary for a chmod command to be executed to set read,
write, and execute permission.

                  For example:

                  % chmod 777 *.bin

Linux Kernel 2.2 is the current production release of Linux, with 2.2.18
having just been released.

Linux Kernel 2.3 is the current development release, and there is a
Kernel 2.4 tree which is the current pre-production release.

The problem lies in the BIOS. When you add a second IDE drive to the system,
the BIOS does not see the SCSI drives anymore: the BIOS knows of two hard
disk drives with the internal numbers of 0x80 and 0x81. The BIOS numbers the
drives so that the IDE drives are first. When the second IDE drive is not in
the numbers are:

   0x80 first IDE drive
   0x81 first SCSI drive.

When the second IDE drive is put in, the numbers are:

   0x80 first IDE drive
   0x81 second IDE drive.

The message "LI" means that LILO boot is not capable to read its body
(/boot/boot.b) from the disk. LILO does not have disk drivers of its own, so
it has to use BIOS drivers.

Id your BIOS does not have a way to switch drive numbers, consider making a
small (8-16 MB) partition at the start of the first IDE disk for /boot. (I
know - the disk may need to be completely rebuilt).

Hi,
I have an internal voice modem SupraExpress 33.6Kb and I tried to
configure
vgetty to use my linux box as an answering machine, but apparently
vgetty cannot
recognize my modem as a voice modem :-(

Unfortunately I could not find any documentation about how to add
support for my modem in vgetty. Even in the Diamond web site there is no

documentation about the voice commands of this modem :-(

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Take as look at xdm or some other graphical login. I dont' remember the =

details, but you even can have X running locally (eg under <F7>), and=20
also have a remote X session (through a graphical login) on the next=20
virtual screen (eg. <F8>). You can do this by using different screen=20
numbers like 0.0 and 1.0.

I did this with Xfree86 3.3.x. But it should be possible in 4.0.x also =

Sorry I can't provide you the details, it's to long ago, and I also hate=

Subject: Looking for ZMODEM implementation

I'm looking for a ZMODEM implementation in C/C++. It should be able to
support to ZMODEM protocoll but doesn't need to implement serial; port
communication as well. I need it to use ZMODEM over an X.25 line, so I'm
only interested in the protocoll itself as it is needed as a transparent
layer between the application and the communication hardware. Doesn
anybody know where I could get one? If it si free it is all the better,
but that isn't a requirement. The only requirement is that the source
code must be available.

Thanks for any infos.

Subject: Used by Chkconfig or other?
Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 00:19:07 -0800

I figured out how chkconfig works - I added the following two lines to
/usr/local/apache/apachectl:

chkconfig: 345 85 15
description: Apache Web Server

Then I do a "ln -s /usr/local/apache/apachectl httpd" from within
/etc/rc.d/init.d, and finally I do a "chkconfig --add httpd". This all
works great.

However, in all of the documentation that I read people seem to add all of
the following lines to httpd:

chkconfig: 345 85 15
description: Apache Web Server
processname: httpd
pidfile: /usr/local/apache/logs/httpd.pid
config: /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf

What are these last three lines used for? (ie: processname, pidfile, and
config). Are they used by chkconfig? I can't find them in my chkconfig man
pages. Are they used by init, or by some other startup script? Or perhaps
everyone just chucks them in for documentation.

Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance,

In that case it's nothing to do with your distro. All drivers are
kernel issues. You can put any kernel/driver on any distro. It's an
orthogonal part of the system.

And I run dfe-530tx[+]'s perfectly well under debian and slackware. There
is no magic involved. These are ordinary cards. Just load the
appropriate driver. It's as easy as lifting a finger.

Since partitions assuming two different head translations exist, and
the BIOS does not seem to support above 8 GB, the case is a little
complicated.

It will be possible to recover the ext2 partitions keeping the 240
heads BIOS setting, but this is potential trouble if you have to use
Linux partitioning tools afterwards.

I suggest this:

The partition tables are edited to assume a 255 heads setting and
recover the lost Linux partitions. This is done using a Findpart batch
file, which I provide.

The PC is rebooted. During reboot BIOS setup is entered, and the disk
auto detected. It is verified that the translation is now LBA mode
with 255 heads.

>From boot to a DOS floppy with sys.com is done (this is needed since
the heads are changed):

sys c:

After this, you will be able to boot Linux from floppy or using
loadlin, and access the Linux partitions. Normally Explore2fs could be
used from Windows, but I suspect this will not work due to the BIOS
limit.

I suggest we do this in mail. If you agree, then mail me a direct
email address. Also tell if you can mail from another PC at the
location of the problem PC.
