Can you send a copy of the output from /sbin/route and /sbin/ifconfig
try this by hand to get it going to test:
1. Boot without starting networking.
2. run /sbin/ifconfig eth0 my_ip
3. run /sbin/route add default eth0

you should now be able to ping the hosts on your local net, basic but
elimates all software issues and leaves it to pure hardware problems.
