sendmail slow on boot

For whatever reason, sendmail loads in about 5 minutes when I bring up
the system.  No errors or anything, just a long friggin time to load. 
Running RedHat 5.1 Manhattan with 2.0.35 ... any help is greatly
appreciated.  Thanks!
