Hello,

I upgraded my SOHO network to 100 Base T HD network.

I am running a nonswitching HUB (I guess because it was cheap).

I have two Windoze clients and one linux 2.0.35 client connected (Win95 and
one Win98 client) to a
linux server 2.0.35 running (Pentium MMX200MHz, 96MB RAM).

Linux server is using epic100.c driver SMC Ethernet II.
All other are Realtek boards 8139.
All are fixed and proven configured for half-duplex!

MY PROBLEM SPEED:

ftp transfer rates:

linux client to linux server both directions 3.5 MByte/sec
linux-server to Win95/98 client upload 3.5MByte/sec

!!!Win95/98 download to the linux-server or other linux-client 1 MByte/sec
!!!!!!

Win95 download/upload to Win98 (using exceed ftpd on either pc) 2.3
Mbyte!!!!!

same rates for smb - connections for mounted drives uploads from Win95/98 to
linux.

The 1Mbyte/secs rates are not stable they have a jitter at about
200KBytes/sec.

Any ideas where to look?

Rainer
