OK, I hate to reply to my own mail, but since no one else is talking...
I just had time to switch to 2.2.5 and I compiled the af_packet driver as a
module instead of into the kernel. A couple of strange things happened...
1) af_packet would not autoload as a module
2) dhcpd would not start w/o af_packet
3) diald would not start w/o af_packet
4) the "protocol xxxx is buggy on eth0" messages stopped
5) ifconfig works as expected on aliases
Basically this points(I think) to some sort of confilct between the new .18
Appletalk driver and the af_packet driver in 2.2.
Can anyone else confirm this or is it just me?
I realize that most people won't need a dhcpd or diald running on an ip
aliasing www machine, but it would be nice to get this fixed nonetheless...
Let me know if you need any more data.
thanx
