Always get confused between gcc and egcs.

Stock RH6.0. I can't remember where Redhat added egcs, and where they
removed gcc. Some boxes came with both.

(If this is a RedHat-newbie bug I apologize - I had a gcc version
 problem with 2.0.37 and RH4.2)

Err, trying
[root@c999700 /root]# gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/egcs-2.91.66/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)

In the /usr/src/linux/Makefile
HOSTCC          =gcc
HOSTCFLAGS      =-Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer

All our working 2.2.14 would have been compiled with this. I just
copied a working 2.2.14 from a different box, and it exhibits the same
problem. Same compiler though... I'm going to struggle to get my
hands on gcc 2.7.2.3.
