Then your problem is NOT ncurses, the error above could be anything, and its
not complete, there would have been some other text beforehand which could
explain and possably pin-point the problem.

Sounds to me like you did not read and following install instructions properly.
When you buy a automobile you make sure the engine is ok and works properly.
When you install a linux system without the proper tools then it can work
properly either.
You have possably left out something like glibc-devel packages, or only
installed half the kernel source code.
Or you have not read the Kernel-HOWTO properly.

Then it seems you have ncurses installed.

Well considering ncurses is not your problem, ldconfig or a reboot will not
help you.

Obviously "yes", its just that you are missing other things as well, the error
at the top of this message proves that.
I think you need to check just what is installed and what is not before you
start abusing your system.
