Being an Earthlink customer, they do indeed work with Linux. However
techincal support (when I needed it almost a year ago) was available, tech
support beyond getting connected with the modem and TCP/IP passing the line,
will be very limited. The support reps are Winblows clones, so the gui and
software side, you will be on your own.

Earthlink's "propreitary" software simply means their dialer and optionally
packaged with IE. Their dialer is better than what Win9x provides since 9x
doesn't provide for alternate phone numbers (Win2000 does). Their dialer
also will let you browse a list if you're a road-warrior. If you're a
homebody, you're all set!

The bright side, just get a local access number, build a ppp-chat script for
it and you're off and running. I've never had a problem with Linux and
Earthlink dialup and actually use it when my cable modem goes down.

Good Luck,
Jim Roland, RHCE
