what kind of message do you get?
Have you checked the XFree86 "howto" at
http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/XFree86-HOWTO.html
and the Linux-Laptop page at :
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/
Especially interesting may be
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/#x_window_system
which has model-specific info.
Basically, you need a X server (e.g. /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA on my
system), and a configuration file "XF86Config" (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config
, for me).
That's not much info, I know, but it is a starting point. Send us your
error messages.
