I am at the end of my ropes trying to print from Win95 client to the
Linux/Slackware server. Having read the smb.conf and printap man pages (the
latter could have been written in another language, totally
incomprehensible to me) and the Printing HOWTOs -- and trying out as much
as I could understand -- didnot help.

May be someone on the list can help.

Here are some snips -- just the printing parts --from /etc/smb.conf
====Global Settings===
[global]
load printers = yes
printcap name = /etc/printcap
=====Share Definitions====
[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /usr/spool/samba
browseable = no
writable = no
printable = yes
public = yes
create mode = 0700
[nec3200]                <note: the printer is a NEC Pinwriter P3200>
path = /usr/spool/lpd/lp
printer name = nec3200
writable = yes
public = yes
printable = yes
print command = lpr -r -h -P %p %s

And this is the single un-remarked line from /etc/printcap:
lp:lp=/dev/lp1:sd=/var/spool/lpd:sh
