        SIMPLE!

Don't run as root! Create a common user and log in as that user
for anything and everything which does not require root access. When you
need to perform some function as superuser, "su" to root, do the job,
and exit superuser as soon as you are done.

The system identfies you by the user id you log in as. If you log
in as root, it identifies you are root. Doing routine activities which
do not require super user access is likely to get you in trouble, allow
simple mistakes to become catastrophic, permit you to develop lousy
security habits, and permit you to "get away with" bad practices which
may lead to the compromise of your system (reference: the "linux virus"
from a year or so ago).

As a security expert, I want to emphasize this... DON'T RUN AS
ROOT FOR ROUTINE ACTIVTIES. You might as well run DOS if you are going
to do that.

Solve your problem and develop a healthier attitude toward security
at the same time... Don't run as root for routine activies!!!
