What kernel? kernels 2.2.{8,9,10} are known to sometimes corrupt the fs,
and 2.2.11 is too new to tell...
Other option I can think of is running out of mem. How much swap do you
have? netscape can sometimes grow to much more than you have as physical
memory available and 2.2 kernels are somewhat slow to recover from
OOM's, i.e. they seem to sleep for a few minutes (trying to kill the
offending task), then usually come up with the GUI login promt again.
