I suggest you buy a book on UNIX or better read the books included on
linux cdrom (user's guide, administrator's guide,...)
Anyway, another suggestion is:
as root execute the command "updatedb" and "makewhatis" (look in the man)
the first one will create a database of all the files on your hard drive
so that you can find them very quickly.
to look for files the command is "locate" try "man locate".
the second one will create a database of all the man pages you have on
your system. You can query for commands dealing
with a subject with the command "apropos"
"apropos floppy" gives this on my system:
fd (4) - floppy disk device
fdformat (8) - Low-level formats a floppy disk
mbadblocks (1) - tests a floppy disk, and marks the bad blocks in
the FAT
'" t
mformat (1) - add an MSDOS filesystem to a low-level formatted
floppy d
isk '" t
mkbootdisk (8) - creates a stand-alone boot floppy for the running
system
setfdprm (8) - sets user-provided floppy disk parameters
with apropos you will get lists of commands you need on a subject. Then
you read the man pages of all these commands and take notes... learning
the hard way.
hope this helps
