slrn colors

Does anyone use slrn for news?  Do you know how to reset the colors?
I've used it in the past and was able to overide the default colors by
setting colors for the terminal.  I upgraded my system to RH 6.0, and now
can't do that anymore.  If anyone knows how to do this, I'd like to hear
from you, I like the newsreader, but these colors are blinding.  I have
already reset all the color settings in .slrnrc, they seem to have no
effect.
