I will agree that upgrading memory would be a good thing. If that box is using
72 pin memory, you should be able to make it 32 meg for less than USD 70.
Running X (I use Xemacs, mostly) on a 486 isn't that painful- having a 2meg
graphics card does help. (And the 486 I run it on has 16meg ram).
Console based apps- Joe, emacs. Vi is lightweight, but it was built for another
time and place- I can't see any reason to go out and learn vi from scratch...
In X- for most work, I like Xemacs or Kedit just fine. Word Perfect 8 is nice,
but eats memory....
(P.S. Anyone know where a copy of the old WP 5.1 for Xwindows might be found? I
don't need all the stuff in 8)
