Yes i did, which means that you did not read it properly or did not
understand it properly as the answer to your modprobe problem is stated
very clearly.

add
alias sound es1371
To /etc/conf.modules or modules.conf

The es driver does not need /dev/sndstat, or even use it.

No there is now no need to make another compile, but i would stronly advise
you to keep the mail for futcher referance.
