Hi,

This is what I do....

1 - Login as Root.
2 - 'useradd barry'
3 - 'mkdir /home/barry'
4 - 'passwd barry'

Then you will have to change the ownership and group
of that directory '/home/barry', as it will belong to
root.  The permissions will need some look after also.

I'm sure that there are better ways, but it works for me!

Do you use the "passwd" command AFTER you add that user? In you are trying
to log in using a valid username, with password not set up, you'll fail
for sure !  :-)
