Then it looks as if a memory error can be ruled out.
Are you absolultly sure there are no errors in your logs, not even prior to
a lock-up.
On another note, does the keyboard num-lock led work when the system is
frozen, Eg, by pressing num-lock the led goes on and off.??? or no reaction
at all.?
Can you ping the machine from another box on the LAN if any.?
What processes are running.?
Are there NFS clients connected.???
Anything which might seem trivial to you could be important towards finding
the problem.
I..ve lost the origanal mail, what kernel version was it again please.?
