If this be so, then you didn't install the old drive as the primary slave.
Did you perhaps install it as the *secondary* slave (i.e., on a separate IDE
cable), which would, ideally, show up as hdd? If so ... I **think** that an
IDE channel cannot have a slave without a master, so if you installed it as
secondary slave but don't have a secondary master, both the BIOS and the
Linux kernel may have trouble detecting it.
PS - I dded linux-newbie back to the correspondence via a Cc. Discussions
