Thanks Marc,

I'm interested in further exploring "expect".  However, I found a utility on
freshmeat.net that does exactly what I need.  It's called MRAT and can be
found under "Security"/"Networking".  I've downloaded and untared it but
haven't tried it on Linux yet.
