Personal taste. Personally, I like Debian. A friend of mine swears by
RedHat. Another friend won't touch anything but Slackware. ::shrug:: I
always suggest getting a package that contains CDs with a bunch of different
distros, and go through and try 'em all for yourself. The package I like is
the MegaPak from Linux Mall. It can be seen at:

Eight different Linux distros - and one BSD - on 11 CDs for US$23.49, plus a
spiffy bumper sticker.
That way you can make your own decision as to which distro works best for
you. Because really that's what it all comes down to - what works best for
*you*.
