This is the whole purpose behind the root raid HOWTO.
The scripts were only required because the 0.42 raid tools do not
have a means to cleanly stop/dismount a root raid array. The current
tools have this feature. What is required is:
Redundant boot partitions.
Lilo or Lodlin setup to boot from any redundant boot partition using
either MBR or floppy.
With kernel in place, any type of raid can now be loaded.
The boot partition can be either linux or dos
It's not complicated once those minimum requirements are met.
