'mtx' SHOULD work with Optical Jukeboxes, assuming that they abide by the
SCSI-2 media changer specification. While most people use 'mtx' with tape
changers, the media changer spec doesn't care whether you're changing tapes,
cd-roms, or meatloaf. (Well, *MAYBE* meatloaf wouldn't be a good idea in
today's drives :-). Note that you might need to use the 'eject' command to
eject the cd-rom out of the drive before the media changer can 'pick' it, also
note that you may need to re-compile your kernel to scan for LUN's on the SCSI
bus (some media changers live on a second LUN at the same SCSI ID as the
drive).
Check out FreshMeat for mtx 1.1, which works with changers with up to 16
elements. For more elements, I have 'mtxl' at http://www.estinc.com/downloads/
, but beware -- this is under development, and there are known problems (for
one thing, I'm having trouble getting sensible sense data out of the SCSI
generic device, sigh... if I use SCSI_IOCTL_SEND_COMMAND and send
'READ_ELEMENT_STATUS' to a disk drive, the low-level SCSI device driver
sensibly returns 'INVALID_REQUEST' in the sense data, but the write()/read()
process, same SCSI command, to the SCSI generic device associated with the
drive returns no error code at all?!?!).
