I know ACER 8432i has 8MB buffer and this CenDyne only has 2MB buffer.

I am trying to setup dual boot win2k + redhat linux 7.
During the redhat install, the screen for config of LILO NEVER
shows up. Why is it not coming up,
TIA

Subject: RAID under RH 6.2

I've got a bunch of little 2 gig drives I'd like to make into a RAID
array of some kind.

My Mylex controller won't work with Linux, but I gather RH 6.2 supports
software RAID.

There seem to be two varieties of this. Is there an overview anywhere ?

One of these needs kernel patches applying. What do I need to do to see
if my kernel has been patched already ?

Cheers, J/.

Subject: Can't send email or disconnect since RH7 upgrade
Date: 18 Nov 2000 10:26:54 -0800

Just upgraded from RH6.1 to RH7.0. The way I've been connecting is,
I log on as root and give the command <ifup ppp0>, ppp connects, then
disconnects, then connects again. Then I do <fetchmail>, and after
it stops downloading, <sendmail -q>. Since the upgrade I have to give
the fetchmail command twice, but no longer have to manually invoke
sendmail; it works automatically now. However, now I can't send email.
When I try I get a "deferred: no route to host" after I do <mailq>.
Also, when I try to go offline with <ifdown ppp0>, ppp disconnects and
then keeps trying to reconnect. The only way to stop it is to do a
shutdown. It continues trying to reconnect during the shutdown sequence,
and only stops when all processes are killed at the end. I don't know
how relevant this is, but when xinetd is suppose to be stopped in the
shutdown sequence, it fails.

Hope this is not overkill, but here is part of my /var/log/pppmsg file,
which I hope someone can use to diagnose my problem. Until recently this
was a typical session. As root, I give the command:

# ifup ppp0

and this is what the relevant part of /var/log/pppmsg looks like:

and reconnects, and reconnects, until I shut down the computer. The next
time I start the computer everything's okay until I connect, then the
whole problem of not being able to get it to go offline and STAY offline
starts again. But not being able to send email is the _real_ problem.
Oh, and I used midnight commander to show me all files with the rpmsave
extension, and came up with:

usr/share/config/kdmrc.rpmsave
usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.dir.rpmsave
etc/sevices.rpmsave
    sendmail.cf.rpmsave
    sendmail.mc.rpmsave
    lilo.config.rpmsave
etc/gtk/gtkrc.tr.rpmsave
              uk.rpmsave
etc/pam.d/passwd.rpmsave
          login.rpmsave
var/lib/rpm.rpmsave

Thanks,

This is bloody weird. I have one of these too (bought to replace my
Philips 460 which died 3 days after the warranty expired... ARGH) and
it's so far worked with nary a hiccup.

I *have* noticed that you must eject the disk after writing before you
can mount the silly thing. Writing multisession CDs works, but you can
only see the first session until you umount, eject, insert, and remount.
Bit of a PITA but it doesn't take long.

Hmm. You know, I've never had anything but grief trying to keep one IDE
device on a channel as straight IDE when the other one is being IDE-SCSI
emulated. I have my Cendyne at /dev/hdc and a ZIP 100 at /dev/hdd, both
drives jumpered correctly and both going through IDE-SCSI emulation.
The drive should behave fine at /dev/hdd if you jumper it correctly, so
make sure this is the case. Do NOT use Cable Select; explicitly set it
to "slave". I would try setting /dev/hdc to be a SCSI-emulated device
and seeing if that works better. This *shouldn't* be necessary, but it
just might help.

HTH, feel free to post here with details of errors if things still don't
work out.
