>From a cost perspective, it's probably cheaper to cluster Intel boxes,
especially since you can get more than one cpu in each box.  There's also
the issue of how well supported linux for Alpha is.  My understanding
(which could be mistaken) was that x86 linux tends to be more stable
and enjoy better overall support.
