All things being equal, the Alpha is faster. However, all things
are not equal.  Alpha has the raw speed, but not a good optimizing
Fortran compiler for Linux (Although you can run DEC Fortran binaries
under Linux, I think this is in violation of the license agreement)
The best thing would be to benchmark you type of application on 
the systems you are interested in.  We have found that the
PII usually works better than people expect and has a more robust
software/hardware environment.
