Hello,

I have a Gigabyte Dual Pentium Mainboard (GA586DX) with 2 P166MMX and
128MB main memory. I constantly experienced crashes as soon as I put a
soundcard in the computer. It didn't really matter wich soundcard
(tried SB16, AWE64, SB 64PCI) or wich kernel (everything from 2.0.35 to
2.2.pre6 that I'm using now).
Even if I didn't load a driver for the soundcard, the computer did
crash, sometimes I was able to see an error message talking about
unknown interrupts.
The only way to get the beast to work is to deactivate IO-APIC with a
bootoption noapic. At the moment I'm a t an uptime of 14h with (partly)
heavy load (compiling etc), that tenden to crash before within some
minutes.
I also have the feeling that my modem-connections are now a bit faster
(I have a 14400 Modem, and with SMP I never got more that 1.3-1.4k/s,
now its at 1.6 as it should be and also is, if I'm running single CPU).

I think it's a problem of the mainboard, maybe it should be (partly?)
blacklisted!? Nevertheless, if you need some more info about it, tell
me (I'm not on one of the mailing lists).

  Peter
