2.1.xxx adds the route for you.  Remove the offending statement from your
init scripts.

    If you're experiencing reports of lots of network errors, chances
  are you need to upgrade to a more recent net-tools that understands the
  new /proc/net/dev format. 

Instead of giving you the url for net-tools, I am going to make the
suggestion that you browse through Changes again a tad more thoroughly, in
particular, the section titled Networking Changes.  :)
