It is no secret that all of this stuff, and all of the
needed information is available from the 'net and lists like
this.  It would be a nice project, IMO, to provide
pre-configured kernel configurations/source, a kernel recipe
project.
Contribute what you know, put it in a database, query it for
tips and .config files.  Especially the SMP/large new Intel
server stuff.  Thoughts?
