I'm having the strange problem with Soyo D6IBA board and PIII processor. I
had a PII 350 on this board before and it had been working perfectly with
Linux for over a year. After I substituted a PIII 550 in there, the system
just keeps locking up. I tried 2.2.12, 2.2.14 and even the latest 2.3.99,
both UP and SMP versions and my customized builds. None of them works. The
machine becomes frozen at random times, from 5 minutes to a few hours, even
in maintainance mode when no drivers are loaded(except the SCSI drivers).
Not a single line in the log. With the UP kernels, it often freezes at the
startup fsck. The SMP kernels lives longer, but still don't work. I turned
all the PM related features in the BIOS off. I suspected it's a BIOS
problem. But after I flash the upgrade BIOS Soyo just sent to me, the
problem persists. Weird thing is that Windoze works fine. No crash or freeze
after days. Here's my machine config
Soyo D6IBA w/ on board AIC-7880
PIII 550(Katmai, not the Coppermine)
Buslogic BT-930
Kingston PC100 256MB
G400 MAX
SB Live
SMC 10/100(rt8139)
D-Link 530TX(via-rhine)
Same stuff with PII 350 works. Any help is greatly appreciated.
